Mushrooms

Thanks for visiting my Raw Foods Diet Blog!

Are Mushrooms Healthy?

I'm not an expert on mushrooms so I don't know for sure, but I'm open to the idea that certain mushrooms (like the Reishi) may be healthy, and that's why it's in Pure Synergy, (the best green superfood available!)

Mushrooms may be similar to algae. There are billions of different algae species and 99% of them are poisonous. There is less than 1% of the algae species that are healthy: spirulina, chlorella, Klamath blue-green, DHA algae, and a few others.

I've been searching the internet for the keywords:

mushrooms immune system
medicinal mushrooms

and I found some interesting stuff. It is the immune system that heals the body and we need to keep it strong. It appears certain mushrooms may boost the immune system, such as shiitake, reishi, maitake.

On The Best Day Ever website, David Wolfe briefly discusses mushrooms and mushroom spores. He didn't say anything about eating them, he just mentioned Terence McKenna's interesting theory.

Terence Mckenna, (he was the worlds leading expert on mushrooms), says that studies done by astronauts found that mushroom spores are the only life form that can survive in outer space. He says that the spores traveled here from another universe and started growing. The spores just float around the universe until they find a suitable planet to grow on.

The mushroom is a mysterious alien life form!

The Pacific Northwest has the perfect environment for mushrooms. When I go to the farmers markets, there are many mushroom farmers and hunters selling all kinds of crazy looking things! I've never seen such a wild collection of mushrooms, they are amazing!

I don't eat mushrooms except in the Pure Synergy and Garden of Life supplements. I may eat them in the future but I'd like to read more about them. I think the right kinds are healthy, the wrong kinds may cause cancer. (Terence Mckenna died of cancer)

The Garden of Life company has an immune system booster, RM-10, that contains 10 different mushrooms with Cat's Claw and aloe vera!

In this article, the top ten mycotoxin foods are discussed. Mycotoxins are disease causing microorganisms such as yeast, mold, bacteria, virus, and fungus.

The fungus growing in our body is a mycotoxin. I'm not sure if the medicinal mushrooms are also mycotoxins, I can't locate any reliable info. This article says:

"Naturally, with this list coming from a group that opposes eating food that is merely contaminated with fungi, we’d certainly oppose eating the fungus itself! That would include common table mushrooms and so-called myco-protein food products."

If, as Dr. Robert O. Young claims, that all mushrooms are toxic, then why is there so much info about the healing benefits of mushrooms on the web?

Gabriel Cousens says Pure Synergy is the absolute best green superfood available. Why would the best superfood include a mushroom? I'm confused!

Although some people believe that certain mushrooms (e.g. white button, shiitake, and reishi) have beneficial properties, it would be completely irresponsible for us to eat them.

For a complete analysis of all mushrooms, their related poisons, and other information, please visit the FDA's comprehensive site concerning mushrooms.

The following is quoted from an article on the Heart Spring Alternative Medicine website.

"What exactly are maitake mushrooms?

Maitake mushrooms are native to the mountain forests of Japan. For thousands of years, maitake mushrooms have been linked to good health in those who eat them.

Because maitakes are well known as healthy food, researchers interested in medicinal mushrooms have studied them extensively. They discovered many maitake compounds with dramatic health-promoting potential. One of these compounds, maitake D-fraction, has
particularly powerful anti-cancer effects.

In lab studies, D-fraction stops the growth of cancer cells and cancerous tumors."

The following is part of an interesting poem quoted from the Deoxy website

"The mushroom speaks...

..."I am old, older than thought in your species, which is itself fifty times older than your history. Though I have been on earth for ages I am from the stars. My home is no one planet, for many worlds scattered through the shining disc of the galaxy have conditions which allow my spores an opportunity for life...

...Space, you see, is a vast ocean to those hardy life forms that have the ability to reproduce from spores, for spores are covered with the hardest organic substance known. Across the aeons of time and space drift many spore-forming life-forms in suspended animation for millions of years until contact is made with a suitable environment. Few such species are minded, only myself and my recently evolved near relatives have achieved the hyper-communication mode and memory capacity that makes us leading members in the community of galactic intelligence...."
